Legislation (UK) UK Environment Agency research shows that only 19% of businesses are able to name any environmental legislation that applies to them. Highly significant parts of legislation affecting the UK are the Pollution Prevention And Control Act 1999 (PPAC99) and the Environmental Protection Act of 1990 (EPA90). These ultimately introduce the concept of integrated pollution prevention & control (IPPC) and define scheduled processes for which authorisation must be obtained to operate. For some processes authorisation is from the local authority; for larger and more polluting ones, authorisation must be sought from HM Inspectorate of Pollution.
